Click the left mouse button. This will scroll the screen one line at a time. To scroll a page at a time place the mouse cursor in the scroll bar and press the left mouse button once. The Buttons Across the Bottom of the Screen PRINT - Use this button to print out the information on the course you are viewing. Make sure your printer is turned on first. MAIN MAP - This button will return you to the Main Map. HOW TO USE THE ARTICLE MENU You will notice there are two list boxes on the screen: one for California and one for Hawaii. You can move between the two boxes a number of ways. Place the mouse cursor on the scroll box and click the left button, use the tab key to move through the screen, or you can simply click on any title to get to an article. MAIN MAP - Clicking on this will return you back to the Main Map. HOW TO FIND A GOLF COURSE All golf courses are listed in alphabetical order. Use the scroll bar or the up/down cursor keys to find the golf course you want. Once you find the course you want, click on it with your mouse or if it is already highlighted click on the Get Course button. HOW TO USE THE CALIFORNIA AREA MAPS There are 3 area maps for California: Northern Central and Southern and each of these are divided up into regions. Look for the name of the city on the map and click on or near it. This will call up that region showing you all the golf courses for it. HINT - If you do not see the city that you are going to on the map look for the name of the closest big city then click there. Chances are this will put you in the correct region. You will be presented with a list of all the golf courses for this region. BACK - This will take you back one screen throughout the program. LOOKING AT THE COURSE INFORMATIONU The course information is divided into three main categories. The left hand margin contains icons, the middle holds descriptive information about the course and the right hand side shows interesting facts about the course. Solid boxes in front of the features mean that course has that feature. If the box is not filled in, then the course does not have that feature. You will notice that some courses have icons in the left hand margin. These icons represent different kinds of multimedia. To activate one of them simply click on them. The types of multimedia are: sounds, animations, pictures and scorecards. Use your mouse or the page up/down to scroll through the golf course to see all of the information. This is the Main Menu which will allow you to access the different parts of the program. Exploring the Main Menu. Starting at the top of the screen, you will see THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS and CALIFORNIA. If you click on either one of these, a list box will pop up with all of the Golf courses listed in alphabetical order. Use the scroll bar to move up and down the list. When you see a golf course you would like to know more about simply click on it. THE MAPS - The California map and the Hawaiian Islands maps are hotspots. HAWAIIAN ISLANDS - Clicking on any of the Islands will take you to a more detailed map which shows where all the golf courses are located for the particular Island. CALIFORNIA - California is divided into three sections: Northern, Central and Southern California. Northern is from the Oregon border to just below San Jose California. Central is from Santa Cruz and Merced to Santa Barbara and Palmdale. And Southern is from Los Angeles to the Mexican Border. Clicking in any of these three zones will take you to a detailed map for that region. The Buttons Across the Bottom of the Screen ARTICLES - This button will take you to wonderful articles that talk about some of the more famous golf courses in Hawaii and California. QUICK FACTS - This button has interesting tidbits about courses in California and Hawaii. Some of the quick facts you'll find there are; The Top 20 Golf Courses in California and the Ten Toughest Holes in Hawaii. HELP - You already know how to use it because it's how you got here. Use it whenever you're not sure what to do! EXIT - Use this button when you are finished using the program. HOW TO USE THE INDIVIDUAL MAPS You will notice there are colored square boxes with numbers inside them on each map. The colors tell you what type of course it is. Look at the color coded map on the screen to find out the course type. Clicking on one of the numbered boxes will take you to that specific golf course. If you are not sure which course you want to review then use one of the buttons across the bottom of the screen. The Buttons Across the Bottom of the Screen SEARCH - This button will take you to the Search screen. Use this button when you want to find Golf courses that have certain features you are looking for. For example, you want a golf course that has club rentals, showers and accommodations. BROWSE - If you are not sure what course you would like to see or you would like to browse the golf courses for this region, use this button. You will be presented with a list of all the golf courses for this region. BACK - This will take you back one screen throughout the program. HELP - You already know how to use it because it's how you got here. Use it whenever you're not sure what to do! MAIN MAP - This button will return you to the Main Map. HOW TO USE THE MULTIMEDIA ELEMENTS There are four types of Multimedia: Pictures, Scorecards, Sounds and Animation. The Buttons Across the Bottom of the Screen NOTE: The buttons will change depending on what Multimedia Icon you clicked on. PREVIOUS - This button will appear if you are looking at a picture or score card. This will take you back to the previous picture or score card. NEXT - This button will appear if you are looking at a picture or score card and will show you the next picture or score card. A beep means there are no more pictures or score cards. SOUNDS - When you play a sound you will see a CANCEL button. Click on it to stop playing the sound. To play the sound again click on the headphone icon. Use it whenever you're not sure what to do! MAIN MAP - Clicking on this will return you back to the Main Map. HOW TO USE THE QUICKFACT MENU You will notice there is one list box on the screen. Below it are two radio buttons, one for California and one for Hawaii. Click on the button to select the state you want to see. Or you can use the tab key to move through the screen. Now you may use the mouse and the scroll box or the up/down cursor keys to move through the list. Clicking on any Quick Fact will take you to that Quick Fact. HOW TO USE THE QUICK FACTS. This is a list of interesting facts on different golf courses for either California or Hawaii. You will notice that some of the Quick Facts have have text in a different color. Clicking on this text will take you to the corresponding golf course. MAIN MAP - This button will return you to the Main Map. HOW TO USE THE SEARCHS You will notice there are a number of choices for you to choose from. Some are simply check box options, others are on/off options (like the course types, public, private, etc) and others are fill in options. Using your mouse, click inside the boxes next to the features that you would like to search on. If you make a mistake, simply click on the box again. The fill-in boxes require you to type in a value. For example, the Par section expects you to type in a range. If you want only courses with a par of 72 then put the number 72 in both boxes. HINT - If you search on a lot of features the chances of nothing being found increase. Thats because the program is doing an exact match search on your selections. If this happens try your search again but don't select those items that you don't really care about. A WORD ABOUT SEARCHING - There are a few things you should know about when you use the search routine. Listed below is some helpful information. YARDAGE - Some golf courses have Championship tees in addition to the regular tees. The program searches the yardage and ratings as measured from the regular tees. GREEN FEES - Because many courses have a variety of Green Fee structures it is difficult to provide accurate results. When reviewing a golf course make sure to pay close attention to the Play Policy and Fees description. The Buttons Across the Bottom of the Screen Begin Search - Clicking on this button will begin the Search using the information you selected. CLEAR - This will clear all your search selections and allow you to start a new search. BACK - This will take you back one screen. The button works this way through out the program.
